About Me

I have worked in the NHS as a rehabilitation professional for over 20 years then in August 2022 I was diagnosed with an invasive ductal carcinoma of the breast, picked up on a routine mammogram it was a grade 3 and had already spread to one of my lymph nodes despite its early detection. Two surgeries, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and 1 year later I found myself at the end of my treatment. To say I felt lost and didn’t really know where to go next was an understatement, the aromatase inhibitor drugs I was on were causing horrible side effects, I couldn’t walk up even the slightest incline without gasping for breath and yet there was no support or rehabilitation for women like me in the NHS.

Healing Myself

I went on a mission to find out as much as I possibly could about how I could heal myself and put myself back together following all the agressive treatments. Being a healthcare professional I also wanted to know the evidence and research behind the methods I was using. Although secondary prevention is not an exact science, I wanted to stack the odds in my favour of my cancer not returning.

Holistic Treatment

As an Occupational Therapist I am used to working with people in all areas of their life and well-being and I discovered that my recovery was no exception. All the four pillars of health need to be addressed, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

The Future

None of us know what the future holds but having worked so hard on my own recovery and combined that with my experience of helping people recover from similar life changing events as an NHS professional, I want to help other women like me to take control of their life again and rise stronger no matter what their diagnosis or prognosis.
